Here at Summit Spine Institute we are leaders in advancing spine surgery safety and efficacy. You may be interested to know, the evolution of spine surgery in medicine is relatively young. Beneficial, reproducible and safe spine surgery really only started in the 1950’s. Since then we have come a long way but we understand we still have to work toward “what will be”. Research is the cornerstone of this progress. Here at Summit Spine we have embraced this mantra since our inception in 2009. We have several current and past research projects that we are proud to have been a part of. These projects help change to the “standard” to improve patient safety and outcomes. These are some of our current and recently completed projects.
Safety and Efficacy of Cervical Disc Arthroplasty in Ambulatory Surgery - The objective of this study was to demonstrate if Cervical Disc Arthroplasty can be safely performed at an out-of-hospital surgery center. The data clearly demonstrated that this type of surgery is very safe and can be done effectively at a surgery center. Many of our patients prefer the surgery center setting due to convenience and the one-to-one patient to provider experience. This type of research encourages insurance providers to allow patients this benefit.

Outcomes Following Utilization of a Device Adapter In Previously Implanted Patients
Using SCS For Chronic Pain . -The objective of this small study was to evaluate if spinal cord stimulator systems from two different manufacturers can be effectively combined in order to salvage previously failed treatment. The early results of this study show it is effective to change Yearwood, T, Sales JR et al. A Prospective, Post Market, Multi-center, Open Label, Non-Randomized Clinical Study of the Efficacy of using Trinity ELITE® in Lumbar Fusion Surgery - This is a 2-year
international fusion study we are participating in. We are currently the largest North American study site and actively enrolling new participants at least through 2019. Trinity is a safe and effective product we use to help our patients fuse. This is a prospective study to help determine how quickly and effectively fusions occur following surgery.
Non-Opioid EXPAREL Clinical Trial: Lumbar Posterior Spine Surgeries- Our newest project looking a opiate alternative options for the treatment of perioperative pain management. Narcotics have significant side effects up to and including death. The medical community is working hard to utilize combination therapy to provide more effective pain control with reduced side effects by using less opiates. This study may provide another alternative for effective non-opiate pain management. Benjamin Franklin once said, “Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning.” At Summit Spine we pride ourselves in providing the best outcomes for our patients.
